Ahrntal

Nestled between the majestic peaks of the Zillertal Alps and the Rieserferner Group, the Ahrntal Valley is one of South Tyrol’s most authentic and untamed alpine regions, located right on the border with Austria. Surrounded by more than 80 peaks exceeding 3,000 metres, the valley is shaped by glaciers, pristine forests and spectacular waterfalls. Free from fine particulate matter, pollen and allergens, the Ahrntal Valley is recognised as a clean-air region, offering ideal conditions for wellbeing and regeneration. Deep inside the mountain, around 1,100 metres from the entrance, the Prettau Climate Gallery provides a unique microclimate where even people suffering from asthma can breathe more easily. Water plays a defining role in the landscape. More than 30 mountain lakes, including the turquoise-hued Lake Klaussee, and the three Reinbach Waterfalls, cascading up to 42 metres, offer visitors the opportunity to experience the power of nature up close. The Ahrntal Valley is also a destination rich in culinary traditions. Across its 64 alpine huts and mountain pastures, guests can savour South Tyrolean specialties while enjoying breathtaking panoramic views. Local favourites include the distinctive Graukäse cheese, homemade bacon dumplings, Schlutzkrapfen and fragrant apple strudel. The region also stands out for its diverse range of outdoor activities. From skiing on the snow-reliable slopes of Speikboden and Klausberg – home to one of South Tyrol’s longest valley descents – to climbing, hiking and the unique “Toul Yoga” experience set against an extraordinary alpine backdrop, the Ahrntal Valley offers countless ways to discover the mountains throughout the year.
