Villa Uliveto

In 1875, Countess della Rovere had a country estate built in the hilly countryside between Assisi and Ancona. On a hill the size of 150 football pitches, well hidden by cypresses, pine trees and olive trees, big names like Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni came here in the 1950s to indulge in “La Dolce Vita” out of the spotlight. The stars came and went, but the villa remains. Today the owner, Franziska Ganthaler, rents out the 900m2 (!) property as three holiday villas. And it’s not just the spacious interior that is generous; so too is the hospitality. Mrs Ganthaler celebrates with her guests over seafood while watching the sunset, seated at a long, white table right on the beach. Everyone is barefoot, of course. And she divulges to her guests the secrets of where to find the best cold-pressed olive oil or the best wine in the world. That’s “La Dolce Vita” today!
