St. Michael-Eppan Winery

Just south of Bolzano, the St. Michael-Eppan winery is enthroned on South Tyrol’s famous “wine route” like a castle. Its two corner towers lend it a defiant, almost military air, and the cellars truly merit this sense of protection, as they contain a selection of ripening award-winning wines. Winemaker Hans Terzer has been a pioneer of South Tyrolean white wine culture for 40 years, and is one of the top ten winemakers in the world. His Sauvignon is one of the most prized Italian white wines. The sunny area in and around the village of Eppan provides ideal conditions for this Sauvignon, as well as other varieties such as Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Grigio. The barrique cellar is one of the largest in South Tyrol and contains row upon row of French oak casks maturing the winery’s very finest produce through the year, for example the “Appius”, the wine of Hans Terzer’s dreams. He awards the best wines of a vintage the honour of being labelled “Sanct Valentin”.
