Lenggries
Nestled between the Isar River and the majestic peaks of the Bavarian Alps, around 60 kilometres south of Munich, Lenggries combines breathtaking scenery, living traditions and genuine Bavarian hospitality. Visitors arriving for a day trip quickly realise that a few hours are simply not enough to experience everything this charming mountain destination has to offer. During the summer months, an extensive network of hiking trails leads to rustic alpine huts, panoramic viewpoints and the crystal-clear waters of the Isar. The river invites visitors to enjoy rafting, canoeing or a refreshing dip on warm days. Adventure seekers can explore the region by mountain bike, take to the skies while paragliding or discover the landscape on leisurely scenic hikes. Families will find just as much to enjoy. Highlights include the summer toboggan run, the Isar Nature Discovery Trail, the natural outdoor swimming pool and visits to local herbal expert Ingrid Pummer, affectionately known as the “herb witch”, who shares her knowledge of Alpine plants and traditional remedies. As the sun sets behind the mountains, the view from Mount Brauneck across the valley becomes a memorable experience—and many visitors are grateful that they do not have to leave just yet. In winter, Lenggries transforms into one of Bavaria’s most inviting ski destinations. The Brauneck ski area offers perfectly groomed slopes for every ability level, cosy mountain huts and cross-country ski trails winding through the snowy landscape like ribbons of white. After a day spent snowshoe hiking with local storyteller and guide Blasi, sledding or skiing, guests return to comfortable holiday apartments, traditional farm stays and family-run guesthouses. There, surrounded by snowy mountain views and the aroma of freshly prepared creamy mushroom ragout with homemade bread dumplings, the authentic warmth of Bavarian hospitality awaits.
