DAS GERSTL Family Retreat
Slow down and unwind—or dive straight into adventure? At the new DAS GERSTL Family Retreat, guests can enjoy both. As South Tyrol’s first family hotel located directly on a lake, the resort offers 65 individually designed family suites and studios built using sustainable timber construction, almost all featuring spectacular views over Lake Resia. Here, luxury and genuine hospitality come together to create an unforgettable holiday experience for every generation. Younger guests can look forward to endless adventures in the Aqua Fun Parc with its 70-metre tube slide, the family sauna, petting zoo, GERSTI’S Kids World and supervised climbing and bouldering wall. Meanwhile, parents can leave everyday life behind and enjoy precious moments together in the adults-only area of the Venosta Spa. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the surrounding mountains on demanding hikes, paddle across the lake by SUP or kayak, or discover the region on the hotel’s own bicycles. Family time remains at the heart of the experience. The Vinschgau Valley provides the perfect backdrop for creating unforgettable memories—those special moments that will be treasured for years to come. Owners Lukas and Marion Gerstl understand exactly what families need. As parents of two daughters, they know the wishes and expectations of modern family travellers. As experienced hoteliers, they have already successfully established DAS GERSTL Alpine Retreat, located just 30 minutes from the new property. Despite their different concepts, both hotels share the same philosophy: a deep commitment to sustainability, regionality and authentic enjoyment. This is reflected in the innovative r30 concept, through which ingredients, materials and products are sourced whenever possible from within a 30-kilometre radius of the hotel. The principle extends from the kitchen and the hotel’s own cosmetic line to building materials and interior design elements. The result is a holiday experience that combines family adventures, wellbeing and responsible travel in one of South Tyrol’s most spectacular lakeside settings.
Themes and research topics
- Always in Sight: The Sunken Church Tower of Lake Resia: Whether stand-up paddling, kitesurfing, sailing or fishing, one iconic landmark is never far away: the famous submerged church tower rising from the waters of Lake Resia, creating one of South Tyrol’s most distinctive backdrops for outdoor adventures.
- Deeply Rooted in the Region: When developing the new retreat, the Gerstl family thought beyond the needs of their guests. Alongside exceptional childcare facilities for visiting families, they also integrated a daycare centre for local children and the families of their employees, demonstrating their long-term commitment to the community.
- The Talai Forest: An adventure for all generations, the Talai Forest invites families to explore nature together. Even better, many of its paths are stroller-friendly, making it accessible for visitors with young children.
- A Future Favourite for Young Explorers: From forest bingo and nature mandalas to building little boats and setting them afloat on the lake, every day brings new adventures. Activities include environmental workshops such as “Clean Your Planet”, visits to the petting zoo, bike training for little riders, treasure hunts, archery, cocktail-making sessions, Werewolf game nights and much more.
- Standing in Three Countries at Once: A hike to the Three-Country Border Stone offers a unique experience where Italy, Austria and Switzerland meet. Few places allow visitors to enjoy such spectacular alpine scenery while standing at the crossroads of three nations.
- Five-Star Family Experiences: Shared adventures take centre stage at DAS GERSTL Family Retreat. Families can enjoy guided cycling tours to local r30 producers, slide races between parents and children, dumpling-making workshops, football tournaments, climbing sessions, soapstone carving, picture-book cinema evenings, campfire bread baking and many more activities designed to create lasting memories together.
